I wanted to talk about these incredibly nutritious little seeds called Chia. Not only are they loaded of calcium, fiber and Omega-3 Fatty Acids, but they also contain a high concentration of easily digestible protein. By soaking them in water, they swell and become gelatinous which makes them extremely filling, while keeping you hydrated.
They make the perfect food for athletes! Chia seeds were a major staple in the diets of the Aztecs and Mayans, they were carried on long journeys by Aztec warriors and used to enhance their strength and endurance. They are also great for weight loss!
Chia seeds contain 700% more Omega-3 than farmed OR wild salmon and 500% more calcium than milk.
There are so many creative ways to use Chia seeds; you can add them to nut-shakes, salad dressings, sauces, or make tapioca-like pudding! Just allow the seeds to soak for at least 30 minutes to achieve a gelatinous texture.
